The Green Heart of Poringland

18 November 1946 - 12 November 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Steve Wakefield.

It appears that Steve, 68, had got ready for a day’s fishing on Thursday morning (12 November 2015).  He had loaded his car ready for the day ahead but was found slumped in the driver’s seat.  Steve had suffered a heart attack.

On behalf of all Steve's friends at Poringland Lakes, we extend our sincere condolences to Steve’s family and friends on their sudden loss. .

Poringland Lakes has lost one of its true stalwarts.

Long time season ticket holder John Tooke died suddenly in his sleep in the early hours of Monday 6 July, aged 70.

Although he had not been ill and showed no symptoms, John had chronic heart disease which led to his untimely death.

Paying tribute, president Dave Gudgeon said “John had many friends at the lakes.  News of his sudden passing has come as a shock to us all.  It is so sad.  Our thoughts are with his wife Terry, daughters Joanne and Lyndsey and family at this difficult time."

John was a popular and accomplished angler, often travelling from his North Walsham home to accompany his brother-in-law Ray Noble on their regular fishing trips to the lakes.

John was held in high esteem by so many people, a fact well illustrated when close on 200 people attended his funeral at St Faith’s crematorium on Wednesday 29 July.  Included in the congregation were many of his friends and former colleagues from British Rail in Ipswich as well as representatives from Poringland Lakes.

12 May 1942 - 8 July 2014

It is with deep sadness that we report the death of Glenn Duffield.

Glenn, who was a founder member of the Poringland Conservation and Fishing Lakes Association, died at 11.50 pm on Tuesday 8th July 2914 after a long illness which he bravely fought with typical determination and amazingly good humour.  Glenn was 72.

Glenn's undoubted popularity was underlined by the wonderful turnout at his funeral at Poringland church on 24th July when family and friends gathered to remember Glenn and celebrate his life.

It has been agreed to name one of the lakes the Glenn Duffield Memorial Lake in lasting memory of one of the Association's founder members.
