Poringland Lakes are the village’s best kept secret!
Situated in the heart of the village, the lakes are ‘hidden away’ at the end of Hillside, a quiet cul-de-sac leading off the main Norwich/Bungay road through the village.
The lakes, which have a varied landscape consisting of open water, temporary wetland, grassland, woodland and scrub (see Habitat and Wildlife page), stretch over five acres and are a wonderful place for quiet recreation, observing wildlife and fishing.
At 70 metres above sea level, the lakes occupy one of the highest points in the area and sit on a perched aquifer.
Poringland Conservation and Fishing Lakes, to give the site its correct title, are privately owned by the the Poringland Conservation and Fishing Lakes Association which comprises the trustees and a management committee. Although legally in private ownership, the lakes are a community based facility which visitors are welcome to use and enjoy.
The following pages give a flavour of this wonderful local facility and the conservation work of the Association. We are adding new pages and content all the time, so please add the site to your favourites and stop by again. Thank you for your interest!
